Many men fantasize about having
multiple partners. Culture has taught them that
two or more is always better than one. As the old spearmint ad would say ‘double
the pleasure and double the fun.’
Radical Islam promises it’s
proselytes that they can inherit seventy virgins in heaven if they die as a
martyr. So many young men sign up to do
just that in our world. This very
fantasy compelled several of them to drive planes into the world trade center. Could marrying seventy real women in the
afterlife really be considered a state of bliss? Would they really all play nice together and
only make it their aim to bring one man his pleasure? I don’t think the real math works out like
that.
Every real woman wants to feel
loved and that requires exclusivity. Pay
the cost and she will make you happy.
Don’t pay it and she will make you miserable. So it’s to a man’s own
benefit that He loves his wife. The
polygamist can only make love to one woman at a time. While loving one, the rest have to sit back
and watch. No woman wants to endure
watching her husband love someone else.
And If momma ain’t happy, then nobody will be. Solomon spoke from experience having married
700 wives and 300 concubines. He spoke
as if living on a small corner of your roof in peace was better than dealing
with the contentions of a quarrelsome wife; they can get that way when they are
not loved properly. When such
contentions arise, any benefit a man might have with his wife simply
disappears. Of course, the costs
associated with feeding them do not. So
multiplying partners only multiplies the costs and it can very well eliminate
the benefits at the same time. Who would call that a heavenly state of bliss? This math
never occurs to most men. I am sure this inspired some of Solomon’s
views on the vanity of life. Fidelity to
one woman not only makes her happy but is really in the husband’s best
interest. The cost to benefit ratio
really prove this out.Related Links:
